The museum building was previously owned by legendary newspaperman Otis Chandler, who once housed a collection of vintage automobiles and motorcycles. After Chandler’s death in 2006, Peter W. Mullin acquired the property and began an extensive remodel utilizing the talents of architect David Hertz and Interscape Construction. Interior design and fabrication were done by The Scenic Route.

The Architect

David Hertz is the founder and president of Studio of Environmental Architecture of Santa Monica and has been an active participant in the environment and design communities for more than 20 years. He has received numerous awards for architectural and materials design work.

The Designers

Designed by The Scenic Route, the Mullin Automotive Museum evokes the pre-war salons of the Grand Palais in Paris. The Scenic Route has woven an atmospheric narrative that carries visitors form the era of luxury, daring races, and inspired creations to today’s accomplished designers and engineers.
